My ideas..first blog posting

Hello! My name is Ally Price and I am excited about this blog assignment. I am a little behind the due date but I am trying to catch back up. Here's a little about myself, I am currently the Assistant Director for  a High School Varsity Drill Team, I work part time at a shipping place, and I am a sophomore in college. I took Dual Credit and summer school classes so technically I am a junior, but I have only been in college for 2 years. I am an English Major and I plan to teach High School, but I couldn't care less about English, math, science, etc. I really just hope to become a Drill Team Director but I figured it would be best to major in a core subject if push comes to shove and I might have to teach a core subject for a while. I really do love teaching, and being a Director means you are teaching just as much as a classroom instructor, but I would rather teach what I love, and that is dance!

My vision of technology in the classroom is hopeful. I hope students can grown and learn with the use of modern technology because technology continues to grow and is a major part of our world. One of the reasons I believe technology in the classroom is important is because it allows students imaginations to grow. For example, If a class was read a book by the teacher, the furthest they could go in depth with that book inside a non technical classroom would be with discussion, assignments, and quizzes. If the students were read a book and then went to the computer lab they could experience the story in a whole new perspective through games, puzzles, trivia, quizzes, assignments, and endless online research through databases and search engines if allowed. However, I am a more hands on learner and I am cautious of too much technology simply because I hate looking at a screen for longer than 30 min and computers, tablets, phones, etc can limit students. Students need interaction with other students to develop good social skills which are necessary for a well rounded education. That leads me to my final point, technology not only helps children learn but it prepares them for the working class. Most jobs require some kind of use of technology, yet we aren't so far in advance that we have no need for interpersonal skills.

I hope to learn a lot about technology in this class. Since I am a little bit of a skeptic, I hope that this class will teach me new things and show me how to incorporate technology in my future classes. I also hope to learn how to use technology for my own use to help incorporate new ideas and materials in my classroom. Writing this blog and creating the graph/spread sheet has already taught me some new helpful ways to use technology to better my lessons and grading. I hope that after taking this course I am excited to use technology in all my future classes and daily life. Its not that I hate computers, I love Facebook, I just prefer to learn hands out and share experiences, thoughts, and expand upon ideas with other people, not Google.
